Solar & BESS Transformer Remote Alarm Triage: A Practical Escalation Workflow

Classify communications, operating-condition and protection alarms so site teams can respond with the right level of urgency.

Remote alarms need a clear operating response

Solar and BESS sites may run with limited attendance, so an alarm is valuable only when it leads to the right action. A simple triage workflow helps operators separate communications issues from developing equipment conditions and avoids repeated, low-value site callouts.

Classify the alarm before dispatching a team

  • Communication: verify gateway power, time synchronisation, signal quality and buffered data before treating a missing value as an equipment fault.
  • Process condition: compare temperature, load, fan status and protection indications with the last stable operating period.
  • Protection or safety event: follow the approved site response immediately and preserve the event record for engineering review.
  • Repeat or trend alarm: assign an owner, due date and site-inspection scope rather than repeatedly acknowledging the alert.

Keep an escalation record that engineers can use

For each significant event, retain the time range, alarm source, load condition, environmental context, actions taken and final finding. This turns field observations into useful maintenance history and improves later alarm settings.

PA-Gateway, compatible sensors and the monitoring platform can be configured around the site protocol, alarm responsibilities and reporting workflow.
